Lots Happening...

We are all enjoying these beautiful summer days and seeing our seasonal residents on a regular basis. Each day is like ‘Old Home Day’. Several more children have joined our Summer Reading program and have set their summer reading goals. It is never too late to register!
Summer is time to FIZZ BOOM READ at the Byron G Merrill Library. Reading over the summer lets children explore new ideas and use new skills. The children have been studying the many kinds of scientists and discussing all sorts of future employment ideas! Sam, who loves to build things, thinks he might like to be a physicist. Caleb loves everything old and can now very correctly pronounce paleontologist. Do you know what a paleontologist does? We are displaying all sorts of science books filled with much to learn and ideas for things to do... Hope you will stop in and take a look.
The Rumney Ladies Knitting Society will meet next on August 7th at 2 here at the library. Beth Kleiner has volunteered to bring a treat and Sheila will be brewing a pot of tea. Whether you are trying to finish a scarf for Grandma or are a complete beginner, you are welcome to join us.
Our Annual Book Sale will take place on Old Home Day, August 9th. Proceeds from this year’s sale will benefit our handicap access project, which will involve installing a lift as well as new stairs enabling us to use the lower level. Might you have some books that you would like to contribute??? You are welcome to bring them to the library or arrange to have them picked up.
One wonderful patron heeded my call and mailed a large box of LEGOS to the library. What fun the children had opening up the box. We still need more! We have plans for the fall to build some spectacular items so we will still keep trying to build our collection. Can you help?
The library continues to be open on Wednesdays (2 – 6), Thursdays (10 – noon and 2 – 6) and Saturdays (10 -1).

'It's Alive' is our upcoming theme...

We are all enjoying these beautiful summer days and seeing the return of our seasonal residents. Each day is like ‘Old Home Day’. Several more children have joined our Summer Reading program and have set their summer reading goals. It is never too late to register!
The world of living things is full of marvels and mysteries. From bizarre sea creatures to mystifying plants it's a source of never-ending fascination and wonder. Young biologists can come to the Byron G. Merrill Library next week to observe biology in all its diverse glory! Our theme will be "It's Alive" with Story Time for the younger kiddos on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 3:00 and will be followed by an Activity Time for grades 2 and up at 3:30. Learn about the many branches of science that study animals and plants all wrapped up in a book and fun activity. The tweens and teens will have some messy fun with gross-out science on Thursday, July 24th, at 4:00pm. Please bring a glass jar with a lid for an "egg-citing" experiment.
It was fun having the Knitting Ladies with us last week. They will meet again on August 7th at 2. Whether you are trying to finish a scarf for Grandma or a complete beginner, you are welcome to join us.
Our annual book sale will take place on Old Home Day, August 9th. Proceeds from this year’s sale will benefit our handicap access project, which will involve installing a lift as well as stairs to both floors in the back of our building and a handicap rest room. Might you have some books that you would like to contribute??? You are welcome to bring them to the library or arrange to have them picked up.
The library continues to be open on Wednesdays (2 – 6), Thursdays (10 – noon and 2 – 6) and Saturdays (10 -1).

Goings On at BGM

The 4th of July has come and gone which means we are seriously into our Summer Reading Program. This individualized program is in full swing with boys and girls deciding their summer goals, selecting from our huge assortment of great books, and logging their success. There is still time to join so we invite all young people, particularly going into grades 2 – 8, to stop in and register. Miss G (one of our favorite readers) gave Cress by Marissa Meyer 5 out of 5 stars...Cress is the third volume in the Lunar Chronicles which is based on some of our favorite fairy tales. Stop by and check out this series and see our book reviews.
We will be entertaining the Knitting Ladies today at 2. This delightful group meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 2 here at the library. Whether you are an expert knitter or just starting out, you are most welcome. We knit and visit and enjoy a cup of tea.
We are busy gathering books for our annual book sale which will take place on Old Home Day, August 9th.
