It is Happening at the Library!

That reminds me of a story... Join us for an evening with Rebecca Rule at the Rumney Historical Museum on Monday, October 6 at 7:00pm. NH author Rebecca Rule has made it her mission over the last 20 years to collect stories of New Hampshire, especially those that reflect what’s special about this rocky old place. She’ll tell some of those stories – her favorites are the funny ones – and invite audience members to contribute a few stories of their own. This will be a fun, free community event with refreshments (pies, lots of homemade pies!) and time to socialize with your neighbors. And did we mention, pies?!
Our Lady Bug story time will continue Thursday afternoon (October 2nd) at 3:30 with two more of this year’s special books. We will read the final two selections on October 9th and then the voting will begin. This last week we read If I Built a House... what a lot of ideas we came up with for our own homes! All of the Lady Bug books are available at the library... if you missed any you are welcome to stop in and catch up.
The Byron G. Merrill Library's Buy-a-Brick program is off to a great start. Excitement has been building since the kick-off at Rumney Old Home Day in August. For a variety of contribution levels you can buy a brick paver with the proceeds going to the lift (elevator) expansion project to make the library handicap accessible. There is also an option of having your name or business engraved on the brick to show your support of the library meeting the needs of the community. Forms are available at the library or bricks may be purchased online at polarengraving.com/rumneylibrary
This week will be your last chance to enter our “September is Library Sign-Up Month” drawing for a coffee & muffin at the Common Cafe or dessert from Rumney Rocks Bistro. Winners will be drawn on Saturday, October 4th. You won't want to miss out on a local, tasty treat!
Many new books are being added to the library collection including: This week’s new books include The Long Way Home by Louise Penny (#10 in the Three Pines series, Found by Harlan Coben (#3 in the Mickey Bolitar series), and The Lincoln Myth by Steve Berry (#9 in the Cotton Malone series).
The library is open on Wednesdays 2 – 6, Thursdays 10 – noon and 2 – 6, and Saturdays 10 – 1 each week. Be sure to check out our blog at http://rumneylibrary.blogspot.com and ‘like’ us on Facebook for all the latest happenings.

September... Library Sign-Up Month!

Every parent wants their child to succeed, and one of the simplest ways you can ensure your child’s academic success is by making a quick trip to the library. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Byron G Merrill Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.
“Our library provides all types of students a welcoming atmosphere where they can explore, discover and create,” says Susan Turbyne, Library Director. “Students learn in a variety of ways, thanks to the resources available at the library we can meet the needs of all ages and types of learners. Whether that is through homework help, reading clubs, or to access print and e-books, the library has something for everyone – all with a free library card. It is for these reasons that a library card is the most important school supply of all.” Throughout the course of the month, the library will host a number of activities. On Saturday, September 13th from 10 until noon we will be offering free muffins to anyone signing up for a new card and we know some very good cooks.
It is easy to sign up for a library card... we need something that shows you live in Rumney and children need a parent or guardian with them. If you have any questions you may email Susan at rumneylibrary@roadrunner.com or call 786-9520
