January at BGM Library....

The Trustees and the staff at the Byron G. Merrill Library thank everyone who has made a contribution to the "Time for a Lift" Project. Your donations and support are greatly appreciated both now and in the near future when the library will be accessible to anyone who would like to come into our beautiful building. The Buy-a-Brick program saw many orders come in for the Christmas season in memory and honor of loved ones. There is still plenty of time to make a contribution or, if you prefer, to buy a brick which will become part of the new entryway. You are welcome to stop by the library for more information and to see many of the bricks which have already been purchased.
The Winter Story Time for children has begun with snowflakes and snowmen decorations getting us in the spirit for our snow theme. Special winter books are available to check out each week along with an ongoing snowman and snowflake craft. Join us on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm or Thursdays at 10:30 am for a fun time of singing, reading, activities and more. In addition, our independent readers have formed a book group and will be reading away to reach their various goals. Our Knitting Club is ongoing in spite of all the confusion over our January meeting. If you remember correctly it was extremely cold on January 8th... What a surprise to have the door open at 2 and see a lot of familiar faces come along in! We enjoyed some good conversation and a cup of tea along with our knitting but no cookies! We plan to do better next time. Our next get-together is scheduled for Thursday, February 12th at 2 and, I believe, Dottie will be bringing treats. See you all then! Rumney Historical Society workers will be meeting at the library each Thursday morning at 10am during the cold months to plan the 2015 season and sort through various historical items. It is fun to spend time together and there is always a lot of talk of the old days. Everyone is welcome! Save the date February 5th at 7. The Rumney Historical Society will be showing the film Gentleman Jim. Look for more information next week! Winter is such a good time to settle down with a good book and just feel cozy. And we have lots of good books to choose from so we hope you will stop by and select one or two. We have several of the bestsellers available including All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doeer, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, and Redeployment by Phil Klay. For those of you wishing not to venture out on these cold days, you are welcome to download a free ebook or audio book right at home through the NH Downloadable book program to which we subscribe. We are open Wednesdays from 1 – 5, Thursdays 10 – 5, and Saturdays 10 -1. Keep up with our goings on through the Record Enterprise, our blog, and Facebook. Hope to see you soon!
