Lots happening in November! Please join us...

The weather is getting cooler and the beautiful leaves are now in piles, as the Byron G. Merrill Library continues to be a hub of activity in the community. Several activities are planned as we wind our way through November. Storytimes for the Little Ones (toddler-preschool) is an active time with fun stories and crafts to keep little hands busy. The Little Ones will gather on Wednesday mornings, at 10:00 am November 2nd, 16th, and 30th. Perhaps you know of a pre-schooler or young mom who might enjoy time with others. Big Kids Bookworm Club is also an active time for bigger kiddos in school. What a great time to get the school wiggles out with games, a good book, and more. Bookworm Club will be on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm November 2nd and 30th. Youth ages 8-14 are invited to come for some science-y experiments with Carla on Wednesday, November 16 at 3:00pm. We'll try not to blow up the library Our October Knitter's group was quite a success with lots of handiwork being done around the big table along with yummy cake and hot tea being served. Join us again on Thursday, November 10th at 2:00pm. You are welcome to invite a friend. Get in the Christmas spirit on Monday, November 14th by being a part of a cookie swap. Bring two dozen of your favorite cookies to share along with the recipe and enjoy a sweet treat as you prepare for the weeks ahead. This fun activity is sponsored by our very own Christmas Club members and is a great chance to check out some new recipes. The Ladies Book Club will meet at the Common Cafe in the newly-opened dining room on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00pm. We will give you a heads up when our next book arrives. We will have a special menu for a light supper or treat with tea. Looking forward to a thoughtful discussion! We have begun work freshening up Merrill Hall, our large room on the lower level. The room has been emptied and the carpet removed. The next step is to get ready for paint. We are having a work session Tuesday, Nov 1st from 10 am til noon and we hope that you can lend a hand. A few items still need to be removed from the walls, the windows need to be washed, the window casings need to be cleaned, and paint needs to be scraped in a few places. Jim and Carla will be ready with drop cloths and tools! See you then! The Library Ladies wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. We will be open on Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and open again on Saturday Nov. 26 for all your reading needs.

It's October at the BGM Library and there is a lot going on!

October is already off to a fast start for those of us at Byron G Merrill Library while we are still wondering what happened to summer! Everyone seems happy to get back into the fall schedule including our school children. We have several fun activities planned here at the library to tie into this next season.
First up will be the Ladies Book Club... Interested ladies are invited to join us at the Common Café on Tuesday October 11th starting at 7. Brian, our host, has three lovely new dining areas and we are all looking forward to a night out. Some of us will even be having supper. Please come ready to tell us about some of your recent reads... our ladies are always looking for a suggestion on what to read next. Carla and Susan will bring a bag or two of our new selections from the library all ready for you to check out! And we will make a plan for the months ahead.
Our Knitting Ladies will be having their monthly gathering on Thursday, October 13th at 2. All area handiworkers are invited to join us as we show off our current projects and share a cup of tea. Beth Kleiner, a wonderful baker, has volunteered to bring her famous coconut cake! Interested in learning to knit... just come along!
The Children’s Literacy Foundation, known as CLiF, will be hosting a special event for our young readers of all ages on Wednesday, October 19th at 10 am. All homeschooling children are invited to be our guests for a fun hour of storytelling, a tour of the library, and an introduction to the many services our library has to offer. Sure hope you can join us! The children at Russell School will be enjoying a similar event during their school day.
Monsters big and small are invited to our story times on Wednesday, Oct. 26 with Little Ones meeting at 10 am and Big Kids meeting at 3 pm. There are sure to be fun stories, crafts, activities and snacks for all. Costumes are encouraged. Stop by the library for a treat on your way around the village during trick-or-treat on Halloween, October 31st between 5 and 7. You might even see a ghoul or two hanging around the place!
As you can see, we have a lot going on and hope that you find something of interest. We always have new books available to check out. Have you read The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead or Before the Fall by Noah Hawley or A Great Reckoning by Louise Penny?? We have these and many, many more just waiting for you! The Byron G Merrill Library, located at 10 Buffalo Road in Rumney Village, is open three days a week: Wednesdays from 1 until 5, Thursdays from 10 until 5, and Saturdays from 10 until 1. Hope you visit us in October!
