July at last and all the warm weather we have been waiting for has arrived. Warm temperatures mean summer and summer means Summer Reading! Why do we run a Summer Reading program here at the library??? Teachers, parents, studies all tell us that children are more successful in school when they do not take a long summer break from reading! Our goal is to keep it happening! We are pleased to collaborate with Russell Elementary School to engage the children of Rumney in fun reading and learning experiences throughout the summer. This summer's theme is A Universe of Stories which is all things space-y as NASA celebrates the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon mission.
The summer activities continue this next week as the middle school students come together at 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 17th, for some fun activities and at 3:00pm that same day, elementary ages will meet to continue Trekking Across Our Universe. Preschool Storytime for the little ones, birth through age 5 will be on Tuesday July 30 at 10:00am in the lower level where children will enjoy a time of sensory play along with themed books, crafts and music. (The library is not open on Tuesdays so we ask you to come in the back door) We encourage visiting/vacationing families to join us!
Summer reading programs help students continue learning and avoid the typical summer reading slump which in turn gives them a jump start for the coming school year. Come on in with your child and join a program designed just for them!
BGM historians gather once again on Thursday, July 18 to work on Rumney scrapbooks. What a fun walk through time to see and read what has happened in town over the years. You are welcome to join in the paper-cutting and reminiscing fun.
Our open hours are: Wed & Thurs. 1pm-5pm, and Saturdays 10qm-1pm. For the latest info on events and happenings just like us on Facebook and follow our blog at: rumneylibrary.blogspot.com.
